The short version
zQinta is a local-first app. Your knowledge maps, notes, and AI chats live on your Mac — we never see them. The only personal data we hold on our servers is what you create when you register for an account: your name, email, and the community discussions you choose to post. We don't use tracking cookies, we don't sell your data, and you can export or delete everything anytime.
What we collect & why
- Account info (name, email, hashed password) — to create your account and authenticate you. Needed to use community features.
- Community content (your discussions posts, comments, likes) — the content you publish to the community feed. Public by design; you control what you post.
- Notifications — so we can tell you when someone replies to or likes your content. Kept 90 days, then deleted.
- Payment metadata (Stripe customer/subscription IDs, Connect account status) — to manage your subscription. We never store card numbers — Stripe handles all card data under their own PCI-DSS compliance.
- Session tokens — to keep you logged in securely. Rotating, encrypted, expire after 30 days.
- Local-only usage analytics— coarse, on-device counts (how many nodes you've generated). These never leave your Mac and contain no personal data.
What we don't collect
- Your knowledge maps, concepts, notes, or AI conversations.
- Your AI provider API keys (stored in your Mac's Keychain).
- Card numbers or raw payment details.
- Cross-site tracking cookies or advertising identifiers. The macOS app sets no cookies and runs no trackers.
Your data lives where
- Your Mac — boards, notes, chats, settings, API keys, local analytics. Under your full control.
- Our servers (PostgreSQL on a cloud provider) — account + community data only.
- Stripe — payment processing. We only store metadata references, not card data.
- Mailgun — transactional email delivery (account confirmation, password reset, notifications if enabled).
- Apple iCloud— if you enable cross-device sync, your boards sync through your own private iCloud database. We can't see that data.
Your rights
Under GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA (California), and similar laws, you have the right to:
- Access & portability — download all the data we hold about you as JSON. In the app: Settings → Privacy & Data → Download my data.
- Erasure — permanently delete your account and all associated data. In the app: Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete my account. Payment records are kept as an anonymous skeleton for tax/legal compliance.
- Rectification — correct your profile info anytime in the app.
- Objection — opt out of notification/lecture emails via the in-app settings or the unsubscribe link in any email.
To exercise any right, use the in-app controls or email privacy@zqinta.com.
How long we keep data
- Community posts & comments — until you delete them.
- Notifications — 90 days, then automatically purged.
- Session tokens — 30 days, then expire.
- Payment records — ~7 years (tax/legal retention), anonymized on account deletion.
- Diagnostics logs (on your Mac) — 7 days, then auto-cleaned.
- Your local boards — forever, until you delete or reset them on your Mac.
